MIKIMOTO Pearls:
Only the top 5% of cultured pearls are deemed worthy to carry the MIKIMOTO name.
MIKIMOTO developed a proprietary grading system unique within the jewelry industry, which accurately and consistently grades its pearls based on luster, surface perfection, shape and size. There are four MIKIMOTO grades, AAA being the highest quality: A, A+, AA and AAA. There are also four sub-grades: A1, A+1, AA1 and AAA1. The "1" represents a slightly more blemished surface.
Competitors sometimes utilize a similar system to grade inferior pearls. A company may designate its pearls as AAA or A+ but in reality these grades are not equivalent to MIKIMOTO's grades, as they refer to inferior quality cultured pearls. Read more
