MIKIMOTO Pearls:
Only the best 3-5% of cultured pearls are deemed worthy to carry the MIKIMOTO name.
MIKIMOTO invented the proprietary grading system of sorting and grading pearls. Other companies have since used this system, but be warned: just because a company calls its pearls AAA or A+ does not mean they compare to MIKIMOTO's grades, actually these grades could be used to mean literary anything and are very misleading. Don't be fooled. No pearls will hold their value or will be of the quality of MIKIMOTO. There are four MIKIMOTO grades, AAA being the highest quality: A, A+, AA and AAA. There are also four sub-grades: A1, A+1, AA1 and AAA1. The "1" represents a slightly more blemished surface. Read more about MIKIMOTO Grading >
The world's most revered pearl house was founded in 1893 by Kokichi Mikimoto. Through tireless dedication, research and experimentation Kokichi almost single-handedly invented the modern cultured pearl industry. It wasn't long before the elegant beauty of Kokichi's pearls was eventually recognized by women throughout the world and "MIKIMOTO" became synonymous with the finest quality pearls. Today, only the top 3 to 5 percent of the pearl's harvest meets the rigorous quality control standards that Mikimoto has established.
The MIKIMOTO mission lives on today, through the maintenance of the highest standards of quality in the pearl industry, and the continual strive for the finest materials and the most elegant of jewelery.
